What’s The Purpose of Gibberish Comment Spam?

I logged into my account today and was greated with several hundred gibberish spam comments that looked something like “hysnlv xribuwdj fqcpezsg fzvowu maqlegryb pcfebu uawo”. All were from an “@mail.com” domain and all left urls that don’t go to a domain.

Usually comment spammers are trying to build links to a particular site so at least the domain isn’t gibberish – so I can’t figure out how the point of this type of spam. Thankfully, since they all have that same domain in common, they are easily blocked.

Is it just me or are others finding a surge in comment spam recently?

Yeah, I just don’t get that. I get a bunch of these on all my blogs, and they’re such a waste of time. What i’m thinking is that they are a test to see what gets through spam filters and what don’t.

Or a bunch of Shakespearean monkeys have just started their collected works.
