Get Listed With Google in 48 Hours

I recently saw an ad for a search engine marketing company that claimed they could get your site included in Google’s search results in 48 hours for a nominal fee. Personally, I think this is incredibly misleading, so let me explain exactly what they will do and what results you will get.

What Does Site Inclusion Mean?
If your site is included in Google’s search results, it simply means that Google has added your website to its database. You might show up on the 1 millionth page of search results, but you’re there.

How do you check that? Simply go to Google and search for “site:mydomain.com”, replacing mydomain.com with your url.

Now, let me be clear. Just because your site is included in Google’s database doesn’t mean it ranks anywhere near the top for your preferred keywords.

Most new websites have a number of obstacles to overcome before they rank well:

  1. It’s a new site. – Search engines tend to rank older sites better than brand new sites. They do this to weed out spammers that set up sites with useless content that try to game the system and get a high rank overnight. Some marketers believe that there is a specific length of time that Google penalizes your site for before listing you at a better search ranking. Sites within that time period are held in the “Google Sandbox” until they prove themselves.
  2. Lots of competition. – For any topic you pick, chances are, the competition is fierce and it will take some time to get a high ranking for your preferred keywords.
  3. Lack of in-bound links. – To check how many links back to your page Google sees, search for “link:mydomain.com” (again, replace “mydomain.com” with your URL).
  4. Not much content. – Search engines like sites with lots of frequently updated content.

So as you can see, inclusion in Google isn’t all that impressive. The magic secret that these scammers use to get your site included quickly in Google is to link to it from a popular website with a Google PageRank of 5 or higher. You can check a site’s PageRank at CheckPageRank.com.
